The ICS Excellent Young Scientist of the 2009

Dr. Michael Bendikov, The Weizmann Institute of Science.
Michael has managed to integrate synthetic chemistry, physical organic chemistry, material science, and computational chemistry so as to make highly significant contributions to the area of conducting polymers and novel electronic organic materials. With some 50 papers in top-tier journals including JACS(+JACS select), Angewandte Chemie, Chemistry European Journal, and over 1000 citations despite much of the work having been published recently, there is no doubt that Michael is an exceptionally creative scientist with a very bright future ahead of him.
Our hearty congratulations to Michael on this achievement!

The award ceremony will take place at the opening session of the 75th ICS Meeting, on Monday, January 25th, 2010.

Mrs. Afrah Assi - the 2008 Israel Chemical Society Prize for Excellent Young Teacher

The Israel Chemical Society Prize for the Outstanding Young Teacher for 2008 is hereby rewarded to mrs. Afrah Assi Jaljulia High School - Jaljulia for extraordinary devotion to chemistry teaching that produced outstanding students , for making chemistry a prestigious , highly demanded subject at her school.

The 2008 ICS Medal is awarded to Professor Zeev Luz

The 2008 Israel Chemical Society Medal will be awarded to Professor Zeev Luz of the Weizmann Institute of Science. For using magnetic resonance to unravel molecular dynamics and chemical exchange in liquids, liquid crystals and solids; For his enormous contribution in establishing Israel as an internationally renowned center for magnetic resonance research.
The award ceremony will take place at the opening session of the 74th ICS Meeting,on Sunday, February 8th, 2009.

Dr. Assaf Friedler, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem for his ground-breaking studies on protein-protein interactions and for the development of molecules with therapeutic potential based on improved understanding of such interactions.

Dr. Deborah Fass, The Weizmann Institute of Science, for her ground-breaking studies on the mechanism of disulfide bond formation in proteins and its central role in protein folding and assembly.

The award ceremony will take place at the opening session of the 74th ICS Meeting, on Sunday, February 8th, 2009.

Mrs. Suzanna David - the 2008 Israel Chemical Society Prize for excellent teacher

The 2008 Israel Chemical Society Prize for excellent teacher is awarded to Mrs. Suzanna David, from Wizo – Hadassim High School, Hadassim for devoting her professional life to raising the reputation of chemistry in Israel and training the next generation of teachers and by so doing has made a major contribution to the development of Israeli high school chemistry.

The award ceremony will take place at the start of the Educational Session at the 74th ICS Meeting, on Monday, February 9th, 2009 at 16:00.

2008 ICS Prize for Excellence Award Winners

Professor Reshef Tenne from The Weizmann Institute of Science for his pioneering studies which extended the fullerene and nanotubes realm to the inorganic chemistry. This work opened new research fields in nanotechnology and solid state science, subjects which already are starting to affect and benefit our lives.

Professor Rafi Mechoulam from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem for his unparallel contributions to the isolation and synthesis of the active compounds of the Hashish and mapping the receptors in the brain for these compounds. Professor Mechoulam also discovered the family of Anandemides found in the above receptors which are responsible for many desirable effects in the brain such as easing pains, control coordination and much more.

The award ceremony will take place at the festive banquet of the 74th ICS Meeting, on Sunday evening, February 8th, 2009.
